Campingplatz

This place was pretty posh, it had flat sandy tent sites, covered outdoor tables with benches, beautiful kitchens and bathrooms. Our problem was we arrived tired and smelly shortly after 21:00. We were to late to buy a prepaid card for the shower.
We stayed late season, early September, there were still many campers here, I am not sure if I would like this place mid-season.

This camping ground is right on the beech, we slept listening to the sound of the wind in the trees and waves lapping up the beech.

The advantages of this place are that it is close to Kiel and an easy cycle to the DFDS ferry terminal.

The bathrooms and kitchen are okay, there is no shelter from the rain and you get told exactly where to pitch your tent.

This camping ground had a nice wee shop and cafe. The cafe sold good beer and consequently possibly had the friendliest Germans that we stumbled upon.

This was a nice flat, leafy and buzzing camping ground. It had good bathrooms, kitchens, a cafe and an excellent little general store.
We arrived well after the office closed, camped amongst the camper vans and were still able to use their showers. The office opened quite late in the morning, we could have cycled out without paying.

After a long day's cycling this was a delightfully friendly place to arrive at.
The tent sites were not that level, thus not that suitable for tents. They had a lovely little dining room in their kitchen, however unfortunately for us, the cooking elements were not working.

Comparatively speaking this camping ground was quite expensive, though for some reason I did like it.

We were tired upon arrival and asked for a room rather than a tent site. The room was large, clean and with a good bathroom. The camping ground staff were also helpful and friendly.

There was plenty of space in our room to store our bikes.

It is kind of hard to review this place. It is part of an old house, with where-possible original furniture. We were there in autumn and it was cold in the evenings. However it had central heating and an electric heater if needed. The place was very clean and had everything that was needed. Our hosts were very friendly, warm and inviting. They even did a load of our smelly cycling washing for us.

It rained everyday we were there, but we still managed to sit wrapped up on their balcony. They also have an excellent shower and a very comfortable bed.

Location-wise it is situated on a creek and is very peaceful. It is also only a short walk to the town centre.

If you want a five star hotel then this is not your place. If you want an authentic and clean guest-house then this will be perfect.

We turned up here unannounced and could not find anyone to serve us. When we did find someone their service was barely sufficient.

The toilets, showers and kitchen left quite a bit to be desired. The camp-sites were level and soft with a scattering of outdoor furniture.

This place had great showers and toilets. Was quite compact with lovely trees. There were relatively few sites to pitch a tent and the spots I found were not level and very stoney.

Check-in required a telephone call which we could not make. After being told to wait an hour and then no one coming, coupled with the noise of the other people staying there, we left, disappointed.

Camping Dunajec

This was a very clean, pleasant and quiet camping ground and guest-house. Our campsite was right on the Dunajec river, the ground was soft and level. The site had a toilet block, shower block and kitchen. The kitchen was not well stocked, but did have hotplates for cooking, a sink for the dishes and drinking water.

Attached to the Guest house was a restaurant which served good healthy food. The staff were efficient and friendly. They provided us with a cycling map of the area and filled up our Thermos with hot water.

Be warned, like all of our Slovakian camping grounds, we had to pay a 'tourist tax'. For non-Slovak speakers this was not clear from the website. The tax was € 0.40.

Out of the four camping grounds we visited in Sloviaka, this was by far the cheapest and best.

Oh dear. We were very thankful for this place and very very thankful to find cheap cabins, thus avoiding pitching our wet tent.

I will give this place an emphatic 2/5

  • the people were friendly
  • on google maps the camp ground was at the wrong location
  • cabins were clean, but very basic
  • I could not get cold (yes I said cold) water in the shower
  • Ablution block was a little too basic even for camping
  • kitchen was locked at breakfast time and we did not have a key
  • website looks nothing like the reality
  • according to their website, I think we were over-charged.

But again though a longish cycle away from the main road, we were thankful for this camping ground.

Well we were dripping wet when we arrived and were thankful to be taken. They kindly stored our bikes in a downstairs closet. Our room was dry, warm and clean.

  • We had loud music coming up from the bar until I went down and shut then up at 4am
  • our neighbours may have been popping party pills. Seeming every forty or so minutes they would enter their room yelling and banging things around.
  • we were woken again a six in the morning by them going to bed
  • according to the website they may have charged us twice the going rate for the room.

Warm, friendly, spacious, clean and sunny. This really was a good place to stay. They let us lock our bicycles in their foyer and let us use their washing machine to wash our wet and smelly cycling clothes. They also went the extra mile for us in getting in help to find the BBC on their satellite television.

I highly recommend Penzión Modul.

Very warm and clean rooms, well-equipped kitchen and friendly hosts. We were on the upper floor with a balcony and views over roofs onto the mountains. There was no problem leaving our bicycles locked up in their basement.

I did have some unhelpful trouble booking the place.

I have little experience in penzións, but for what it was I will give it a 4/5.

This place seemed to be just after our money, while providing as little service as possible. It had mostly unfriendly staff and limited facilities. It has an outdoor café and rudimentary showers and toilets. The ground was a little hard, stony, uneven and unkept.

I would have given this pace a 1/5 if it was not for a friendly morning worker who upon seeing my Lithuanian identity card politely asked if I spoke Russian.

2/5 and I would cycle past it next time.
