Blue Jasmine

Picture
Directed & written by Woody Allen

Staring; Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Sally Hawkins & Bobby Cannavale

Okay this was a good movie. To me is was about 'what we value in life' and was the story of two sisters. Jasmine (Kate Blanchett) after loosing her millions in New York turns up on poor her sister's San Francisco doorstep.

The best part about the story for me was the ending, it simply finished in the perfect place.

Alec Baldwin played Jasmine's husband well. Also Andrew Dice Clay was quite impressive in the minor role of Jasmine's sister's ex husband.

Very good film.

4.5/5

Conviction

Picture
Staring Hilary Swank, Sam Rockwell & Minnie Driver

This was a wonderful, gripping and slow moving 'based on a true story' film. The story is about a lower-income mother who is forced to go to law-school to represent her brother, who has been convicted of murder.

Good acting and an inspiring story.

Dancer in the Dark

Picture
This has been my favourite film for quite sometime it automatically gets a 25/5.  Bjork  is amazing and so is David Morse. The movie is a slow and desperately tragic musical. The script is amazing, I keep retuning to it, I keep getting angry at the injustice and crying in the same places.

The move is set in seventies Washington State USA and is about an immigrant form Czechoslovakia struggling to serve her son. But do not be fooled, the film is a Swedish production and mostly filmed in Sweden and Denmark and is jam packed with Swedish angst. Oh yeah perhaps I should also mention that it is directed by Lars Von Trier.

25/5.

Midnight in Paris

Picture
Comedy, Romance
Directed By: Woody Allen
Written By: Woody Allen

Hmm well written film with some lovely scenes. This film should not be watched by people who are not artsy. The film was sweet, lovely, with absolutely not substance. It was shallow.

It was a lovely film, but not worth watching.

2/5

Prince Avalanche

Picture
Director: David Gordon Green
Screenplay: David Gordon Green
Staring:  Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch

This little film was a fantastic and random little gem. It was so earth-shatteringly funny and totally serious all at the same time. It was slow moving, yet fast moving, with heaps of dialogue and lingering scenes of stark burnt nature.

The story is a basic bromance-road-journey, the difference being these guys are painting the centre lines. It is set in Texas with heaps of generational value clashes.

If you like slightly weird and very random films, then this is a must-watch. I loved it.

Texas Buyers Club

Picture
Directed by Jean-Marc Vallée

Starring: Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, Jared Leto

This was an excellent film. It was based in 1980's  HIV culture and is focused on the life of a rodeo star and his quest to overcome his prejudice whilst search for retroviral drugs.

There were some sex scenes include that I felt were not really needed, but other than this it was a very well told story and great film.

4/5

The Iron Lady

Picture
I enjoyed this film. It showed balance and respect to the life and prime-ministership of Margaret Thatcher. I thought Jim Broadbent did an excellent job as Dennis Thatcher and that Meryl Streep portrayed the elderly Margaret Thatcher with dignity, however I feel as if Meryl over-acted Prime Minister Thatcher and did not deserve her Oscar for this role.
